Happy New Year

It is the start of a New Year. I can remember as a child, going to my grandmother's house on New Year's Day and eating black eyed-peas with ham and stewed tomatoes, which would ensure prosperity in the New Year. I lost my little grandmother this past year, and these are the memories that I continue to treasure. Like many others, I tend to reflect on the past year and only hope that the coming year can be just as wonderful as the past.

As 2007 began for us, we had a very BIG surprise, we found out we were pregnant! So I started off the year enduring a second pregnancy, and nine months later giving birth to a healthy and handsome baby boy. We were not the only ones to welcome a new baby into the world..... Between family and best friends, we have welcomed six precious babies into this world.

At this time last year, we were focused on the safe arrival of our niece, Claire. Her strength and determination amazed me from the moment she was born. Watching "Claire Bear" grow and blossom, you would never know that she had any problems with her heart.

A week later, our best friend's identical twin girls, Abby and Matty, made their arrival into the world a little early. I am proud to say that these healthy little miracles and will be celebrating their first birthday soon.

We also soon found out that I was not the only "Ledlie" pregnant. Shonna, David's brothers' wife was pregnant with their third boy and due in August, and David's sister, Kathleen was pregnant with her first boy and due in October. (Yes, Stephen was born in September.) Within 3 months, we added three more boys to the Ledlie family and doubled the number of grandchildren. The current count; 5 boys and 1 girl.

So in a nutshell.... we have welcomed a son, a niece, 2 nephews, and a set of identical twin girls, served the community as Chief of Forest View Rescue Squad, turned 30, attended our first "Wiggles" concert, lost a dear and once feisty little grandmother, moved another dear and strong grandmother into Westminster Canterybury, played dress-up and got invited to tiny tea parties, supported and prayed for Claire's survival of open heart surgery at 11 weeks, promoted to Manager at Circuit City Corporate, turned three, attended a wedding of a dear college friend, retired from the interior design world to be a stay-at-home mom, started preschool (at the same place I use to attend many years ago), attended 2 NASCAR races, bought a "new" house in the suburbs, sold our "old" house in the city, survived moving and unpacking, celebrated my father's retirement after 37 years as an elementary school principal, watched Cinderella with Kate more times than I can even fathom, picked a plethora of pumpkins in a patch with lots of children, made cookies, Josie (my sister) finished law school, survived time-outs and tempertantrums, laughed, smiled, and loved my children and husband more than I could imagine. I only hope and pray that the year to come can be as wonderful as the last.

Christmas Morning

Christmas Eve, Kate instructed us to hurry home because knew that "Christmas comes tomorrow" and she wanted to go to sleep so Santa could come. Nana had made her a bag of Reindeer food, which for those of you who may not be familiar with reindeer food, it is a mixture of oatmeal and glitter. It was quite sweet to watch the big smile on her face as she sprinkled the food on the ground when we got home. We did read The Night Before Christmas and then she was out! I wish we had Santa to bribe her with every night to fall asleep that fast!

Christmas morning was great, Kate was awake by 7:30. When David and I were kids, both of our families had the tradition of sitting on the stairs Christmas morning until we were told we could go downstairs to see all the presents. Kate tried to sneak downstairs while I was getting dressed and David was taking care of the dogs.

This was the first year Kate really seemed to understand Santa and when she first saw everything I am not sure if she knew where to begin. We opened the gifts under the tree and then made our way to the stockings. I thought the BIG Santa present would be the Little Einstein "Pat Pat Rocket," but I am positive that the Cinderella accessories, camera included, took first prize as her favorite gift. Kate also helped Stephen open his gifts. He adores her and when she smiles, he smiles and "coos" at her. Since she was excited about his gifts, he was too!

Christmas would not be complete without the dogs opening their gifts. Belle sure knows how to hang the Christmas wreath.... LOL

Christmas Eve at The Gregg's House

As long as I can remember we have been going to the Gregg's house on Christmas Eve. It has been a great tradition of spending time together and of course enjoy all the good food. This year we add three "new" children to the annual event. (And to think at this time last year, we thought we were only getting two more.) Here are some wonderful memories of this years gathering....

Christmas Time is Here

Well here it is... my first blog post. I debated whether or not to enter into the world of blogging for awhile, hence being inspired by my sister's family blog. The suggestion from a good friend in Marblehead, Massachusetts prompted me to finally create one of my own. So Karen, here it is!
During the days at home with my children, they say and do things that I never want to forget. However, in the craziness of the day, I do not always get them written down. I hope blogging will be a better reasource to get them on "paper."

Tonight, Kate and I stayed up late (well, for a 3 year old) wrapping packages together. I kept reminising about doing this together last year. Last Christmas, Kate, could pick out the paper she wanted each package to be wrapped in and then hold the ribbon in place with her finger as I tied a bow. This year, she still picked out the paper, but now she can help cut the paper and place the tape in the right place, and even fold the edges up. As I was wrapping up the larger packages, she took the paper "scraps" and started wrapping up some small "stocking" items for my mother-in-law. With the exception of needing pieces of tape, she wrapped up 3 little items for her Nana all by herself! I was quite impressed, as I am sure her Nana will be too! These are the times when I slow down and really soak in what the holidays are really about. I also got to laughing because she swore that the snowmen on the wrapping paper were talking to her, even though she could not tell me what they were saying. She also loved seeing what we are giving to other people (i.e. her cousins) and reveling in the beauty of their gifts and then of course wanting them for herself. But, she knows that Santa is coming to her house very soon.

Earlier today we went and saw Legendary Santa.... Here are some of the moments of the day.
